Jade McPike is a multidisciplinary designer fueled by curiosity, creativity, and a passion for storytelling. She creates experiential environments that foster connection and invite new possibilities.
Period rooms—immersive museum spaces that recreate historic interiors—provide glimpses into past domestic life but often fail to capture the broader cultural and political contexts of their time. Traditionally focused on Eurocentric elite households, they frequently obscure the experiences of marginalized communities and the global systems of trade, slavery, and colonialism that shaped many objects. As museums strive for greater inclusivity, period rooms can be reimagined through new display strategies, contemporary interventions, and overlooked artifacts. Focusing on the RISD Museum’s Pendleton House, this project proposes how transforming period rooms can deepen visitor engagement and broaden historical narratives.
