About

Rosana Sousa is a multidisciplinary designer based in PortUGAL, distinguished by her meticulous attention to detail and holistic approach to both ideation and production. With a deep-seated passion for her craft, she focuses on the thoughtful use of materials and forms, blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge elements of modern industry. Dedicated to fostering close relationships with local artisans and resources, Rosana’s work embodies a harmonious balance of technicality and elevated artistry. Her bespoke creations are both timeless and forward-thinking, reflecting her commitment to improved and more conscious design practices. Recently, she has been exploring practices related to bio materials and research through a master in Design Through New Materials.

AFTER MATTER investigates how cellulose fibers from fashion waste can be repurposed for retail interiors and installations. With textile production producing 1.2 billion metric tons of CO₂ and over 100 million tons of waste annually, the project responds to overproduction and missed material recovery. Positioned as a craft manifesto, it explores tensions between speed and slowness, automation and handwork, synthetic and natural. By reviving ancient papermaking techniques, discarded cotton and linen are transformed into translucent, structural forms that merge function and artistic expression. Celebrating imperfection and overlooked handmade processes, the project highlights craft’s transformative value while proposing a more circular, poetic approach to making that reimagines waste as material for creativity and sustainable design. Installation developed in collaboration with local institutions near Barcelona: Museu Molí Paperer de Capellades, Tallers Soteras, and Group MCI.
