"Women's liberation is the liberation of the feminine in the man and the masculine in the woman" In this women’s wear collection, I explore the intersection of masculine and feminine stereotypes, creating a conversation that challenges traditional fashion norms. I draw on masculine elements like checks and pinstripes, symbolising strength and structure, whilst contrasting them with traditionally feminine motifs such as florals and lace, representing softness and delicacy. Through print techniques like Devore, flocking, and dyeing, I add texture and depth to the fabrics, enhancing the balance between these contrasting elements. The Devore technique, with its semi-sheer quality, creates a subtle tension between bold patterns and delicate textures, while flocking adds a tactile, luxurious feel, merging the masculine and feminine in unexpected ways. This collection is an exploration of duality—where rigid, tailored patterns meet fluid, intricate designs. It reimagines the idea of femininity, moving beyond societal expectations to embrace a more complex and layered identity. By blending these contrasting ideas, I aim to create garments that empower the wearer to express their individuality and navigate between masculine and feminine realms with confidence. Ultimately, the collection celebrates the freedom of self-expression, allowing for a more inclusive, fluid understanding of femininity—one that doesn’t adhere to stereotypes but rather embraces the full spectrum of what it can be.
