About
My name is Carlotta, and I am a recent graduate of the BA Textile Design program at The Swedish School of Textiles - University of Boras. There, I graduated with my final project "Embracing home" with a specialization in weave, focusing on surface pattern designs for jacquard weaving.To me it is important to understand the past in order to design for the present, which is what led me to be interested in working with modernizing endangered crafts within the field of Textile art/design. For my final project for example I worked with the Northern German tradition of "Pommersche Fischerteppiche".Furthermore, I will continue my studies with a master´s in Social design at the Designacademy Eindhoven starting in fall 2025.
"Embracing home" explores cultural sustainability by reviving and reinterpreting the traditional craft of “Pommersche Fischerteppiche” from Northern East Germany. Using jacquard weaving, I developed three textile pieces that intertwine traditional motifs with contemporary design, exploring innovation through pattern distortion, layered tactility, and added craft techniques like knotting, braiding, and embroidery. By deeply engaging with my cultural heritage and reflecting on traditional making methods, this project proposes a sustainable approach to textile design. Exploring respecting the past in order to create for the Future by merging memory, place, and innovation into a modern textile language.
