Hey there! My name is Davis, and I have graduated with my Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) (Honours) from Swinburne University of Technology. I have a passion for design and enjoy the challenge it presents. Thinking freely about solutions to problems helps keep ideas in their purest form and allows designers to push the boundaries constantly. Furniture design is something I would love to explore more! Because there are so many use cases and environments that furniture pieces are used in, it provides a never-ending challenge to tackle. My 2024 Capstone project, FLOAT, was created for people who move house constantly and need lighter, more easily transportable furniture pieces. As FLOAT is a furniture joinery system, it has a huge number of possible configurations that will easily fit into the user's everyday life. Made from rotomoulded plastic, 28.6mm Tasmanian oak dowels, 4mm aluminium sheet, injection moulded collar parts, and various hardware, the FLOAT furniture joinery system will be sure to last a lifetime. Winner of the Swinburne University GradX Commercialisation Award 2024. FLOAT is a modular furniture joinery system created for people who move house frequently. Able to be fully assembled and disassembled with no tools, this system is extremely user-friendly and will endure as many moves as you need it to. Because it breaks down into individual pieces, it takes up virtually no space in a moving van or car. As FLOAT is a modular system, it can be built into an almost endless number of configurations to suit any specific user needs. Users can easily arrange the aluminium shelves using any of the 100mm spaced holes in the dowels to create their own unique product. Currently available in 4 configurations (large shelf, coffee table, coat rack + entry table, side table), FLOAT's versatility is clearly demonstrated.
