About
I am a textile designer and artist working with the practice of natural dyeing and weaving. My work engages with research on the relationships between textile and landscape aiming for sustainable design practices that give the landscape agency in the design process. By enhancing a deeper understanding of the relationships between textiles and the landscape, we can uncover innovative approaches that not only utilize the landscape for materials but also actively integrate it into the broader principles of sustainable design practices. With my work I aim to raise awareness on the value of local materials, sustainable design practices and the preservation of natural landscapes.
The growing interest in sustainability within textile design often focuses on materials and their impact on the landscape. However, this project emphasizes a deeper collaboration with the landscape in textile design, where the landscape itself influences the design outcome. It aims to explore methods of collaboration with the landscape to give the landscape agency in the design process within a weaving and dyeing context, resulting in textiles that are not only visually compelling but also tell the story of their relationship with the landscape. The results of this project demonstrate six different methods that involve the landscape as an active agency in the design process to create a collection of textiles that touch on pattern, color and texture and have sensorial aspects. This approach not only leads to innovative textile expressions but also creates a deeper awareness and connection between textiles and the landscape, leading to more sustainable design practices.
