About
Hi, my name is Lukas.I'm a furniture designer specializing in the material -wood.
In my work I put a heavy emphasis on craftsmanship, quality and concept, and though my background is in fine arts, digital media and classical animation, my passion is working with my hands - shaping, joining, making.I'm a sucker for the details, and figuring out clever ways to solve the puzzles that my designs often turn out to be.
My exam project is an exploration of the material limits of solid wood. The result is the progression of a chair, that attempts to be as light in weight and slim in dimensions as possible. These are not products as much as they are learning tools through which I'm exploring how lightweight constructions could be applied to furniture, specifically how they relate to the requirements of a chair. Therefore this project holds a great value to myself and wood oriented furniture designers as a whole. It is important for me to show my pieces for what they are, to be transparent with my use of the wood and techniques, to show how the different elements are joined and to leave nothing up to interpretation or mystery. For when everything is clearly presented in front of your eyes, it's even more impressive when things don't behave as you thought they would.
