In anthropology, the liminal space comes from the disconnection that develops in the middle of a transformation. This space is something we often do not realize we are in but do know that we feel deeply disconnected, disorientated and overwhelmed with the world around us as the liminal space engulfs us, causing one to become dissociative, disconnected and fragile within liminality. I wanted to explore the liminal space from an emotive aspect describing the in-between through phosphene structures and contrasting palettes and mimicking the repetitive contradictory forces of destruction and creation that occur within liminality. This is represented through the dilution of acrylic paint and the repetitive nature of wiping and adding paint to paper and canvas. With desperate acts of scratching, grazing and ripping paper, we can feel the desperation and anticipation of exiting and entering the liminal space.
