About

Born in Kolkata, Aranya Sen is a young and independent multi-platform filmmaker, screenwriter, cinematographer and editor. Moved and absorbed primarily by Film, with the ambition to pursue, master, and excel in the industries of Cinema, Theatre, and Literature.  He was the youngest filmmaker at the age of 12 to have had a shortlisted film to the national level by the Ministry of Culture in INTACH's "Film-it" India Project in 2014 and a selected film at the Kolkata International Film Festival in the same year. He was also awarded an accolade by the renowned and late Film Critic Gaston Roberge. During Covid Lockdown in 2020, Aranya's one-room production "My Neighbour's Window" was selected to the Veracruz, Gazte and the Rome International Film Festival and awarded the Silver Jury at the KIDz Cinema Film Festival in Mumbai. His first student documentary as a cinematographer, "Hued", a liberating narrative of a drag queen in conventional Estonian society, garnered acclaim and screenings at Baltic and Nordic LGBTQ establishments such as Vikerruum (Estonia's largest monthly LGBTQ+ Event) and the Helsinki International Drag Fest.Aranya's semi-autobiograpical debut short, "The Day I Killed My Mother" co-produced with Summer Media Studio in Lithuania, received official selections to PÖFF Shorts and acclaims at International Inter University Film Festival and in Randfilmfest.Aranya is currently a practicing cinematographer and an undergraduate student at the Baltic Film, Media & Arts School in Tallinn.Aranya's work is growing and versatile. But it is directed to a belief that anti-dogmatic, un-filtered social and personal narratives in the film format stand out in the contemporary and diverse media space. This shapes his work and vision.

In a tense rehearsal at Igor's theatre, Erik directs his actors in a powerful scene where the 'Son' confronts the 'Father' about his absence due to a woman named Anna. Erik demands a visceral, physical slap to punctuate the confrontation. However, Igor, the theatre's owner and Erik's father, advocates for a subtler, more nuanced performance. The clash in artistic vision reflects deeper, unresolved tensions between Erik and Igor. During a rehearsal without Erik, the actors omit the slap, leading Erik to dismiss them in frustration. Left alone, Erik and Igor's professional disagreement gives way to a personal confrontation, as Erik confronts his father about the neglect and abuse he suffered during his troubled childhood.
