Hello, Im Amaan from the Karachi city. Architecture graduate currently practicing in my Country.
Student housing is one of the oldest cultures, survived and developed through many changes. Nonetheless, the ones that are still standing today are identical in terms of planning and design. This presents significant challenges to the students of the newer generation with an updated lifestyle. People coming from afar have limited options to choose from, poor designs, chaotic surroundings and arising mental health issues are some of the problems associated. To further analyze the problems posed by traditionally designed accommodations, this research was conducted by mixed methodology; related literature was reviewed and presented, relevant local and international projects were studied as case studies and an extensive survey was carried out through online questionnaires and interviews. The results obtained from the research were confirming of the prior examined problems and gave an insight on ever arising issues regarding student housing design. This bought forward the conclusion that students emotional & mental health should be prioritized with their needs, new updated design and construction techniques are needed to be introduced in the housing market of students that decodes the problems faced, in order to sensitively produce better programing, rather than creating a block of stacked rooms, to create a healthier, effective modern learning environment. for the upcoming youth.
