About

Yujin Ok is an artist based in Seoul and London whose metalwork explores themes of connection, protection, and transformation. Grounded in craft and material investigation, her practice draws attention to often-overlooked elements in nature, particularly through casting delicate pieces of fallen tree bark. Inspired by organic forms and natural cycles, Yujin builds a visual language that bridges materiality and emotion, creating sculptural experiences that are both delicate and resilient. Her works form protective yet open boundaries that traverse space, offering a subtle balance between softness and strength. These boundaries evoke the inherent power of connection in both nature and human communities, becoming frames through which shifting relationships between materials, environments, and viewers can be contemplated.

The boundaries

This work explores “boundaries” not as rigid lines, but as soft, organic forms that connect, protect, and hold space. I collect fallen bark from trees in Seoul and London, cast them in metal, and assemble them into open, interconnected structures. Bark, once the tree’s protective skin, carries traces of resilience and natural cycles. By transforming it into metal, I preserve its quiet strength and fragility. These pieces suggest boundaries as spaces of care and connection, like trees sharing nutrients underground or people joined in ritual. They invite viewers to imagine new ways of relating through softness, protection, and shared presence.
