About

Hailong Zhao is a designer from Shanghai, China, whose practice lies at the intersection of product design, spatial storytelling, and contemporary lifestyle systems. With an undergraduate degree in Art and Technology, he has developed strong skills in digital tools, interactive thinking, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Currently pursuing his MA in Design Products at the Royal College of Art, he is particularly interested in how design can create meaningful and intuitive experiences within everyday contexts — from food and social rituals to community engagement and sustainability. His approach draws on a deep understanding of user experience, integrating usability, emotional resonance, and system logic to craft designs that are both functional and engaging. Often blending systems thinking with narrative-driven methods, he seeks to translate complex social insights into tangible outcomes that connect with people on both practical and emotional levels.

The Rainmakers: A Flowture Project

My project, The Rainmakers: A Flowture Project, is a community-based interactive installation that engages KS2 children in learning about rainwater collection, treatment, and sustainable water use. By using play as a powerful way to learn, I integrate scientific principles into everyday exploration, enabling children to actively discover how natural resources can be used wisely. This hands-on, curiosity-driven approach reflects my belief in making environmental education engaging and relevant, offering a creative, future-focused response to the challenge of water scarcity in London.
