Elvira Mulkay (Watou, Antwerp 2001) Elvira's work is characterised by playfulness and colour, contrasts in form and material. Interpretations, experiences and re-experiences run through her work, making it what it is today. Influenced by industry, design, fashion and personal collections, her work carries her emotional experiences within it. Drawing and sculpture go hand in hand. This year I focused on developing my formal language, intuitively creating shapes from clay. I then made molds and cast them in resin. For the finishing, I work with car paint. The crafts of wood and steel are also an important part of my practice. In between the physical making of my sculptures, I continuously drew and painted. This allowed the forms to evolve further. I brought this two-dimensional aspect of my work together in a publication for my master's project titled SPRANKEL. To me, this means making things more beautiful than they are. giving a sparkle (SPRANKEL) to something completely ordinary.
