Course / Program Title: fine art digital MA
Originally from the south in the UK, I now live in Korea with my wife and child. I'm driven by the material of my surroundings; its stories, symptoms and potentials. My working practice has covered diverse mediums, but particular attention has been given towards the interaction between digital and physical mediums through textile, print, animation, and video.
My educational background is also in Journalism, Art History, and Education, and I run my own art school. I have exhibited in the UK, China, and Germany.
Completing and experiencing the Masters course has enriched my experience and confidence, and I hope to share the work here.
Digital video and installation that finds connections between fatherhood, the geological, and childhood memory during my first 500 days in Korea. This is explored through the process of documenting, fictionalising, and researching my environment, in particular a site which I called ‘Algae Island’. The video is partly constructed by other projects produced during this time, which came to serve as both props and narrative makers. Collectively this body of work offers a resolve with my past and present identities, and familial relationships. The video can also be housed under suspended glass fragments; a terrarium of cultural, memory capture; inspired by the glass-like shells of diatoms documented in situ.
