Karsten Krogh-Hansen (b. 1997, Oslo, Norway; based in Antwerp, Belgium) is a visual artist working primarily in painting. He holds a MFA in visual arts from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp. Krogh-Hansen's work explores the evolving role of imagery in contemporary culture, shaped by digital technology, popular culture, and nostalgia. He transforms often iconographic elements that is familiar to us all, into something more intimate. Beyond imagery, his work reflects a continued interest in the history and materiality of painting.
My work investigates how widely recognizable icons and visual elements can be reconfigured into something more intimate and psychologically charged. By avoiding overt personal narratives, I emphasize the intensity of the motif itself, creating images that hover between the familiar and the uncertain. This experience of half-recognition—at once close and distant—is central to my practice. Structurally, I divide my work into two strands: oil paintings on canvas, and material-based objects using pumice stone and distemper on panel. I describe these as “images” and “objects.” Their dialogue generates a productive tension, which defines the core of my artistic approach, as shown in the master exhibition.
