Leonor Plantenga is a Dutch-Brazilian director, screenwriter, and installation artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She encourages actors to improvise, aiming to make the performance more realistic. She enjoys working with both professional actors and non-actors. So far, she primarily creates coming-of-age films. On set, she embraces unexpected changes and maintains flexibility in her process. She views mistakes in acting as unwritten gifts. Social and political themes play a significant role in her work. Injustice is something that makes her angry. She sees these feelings of anger as a powerful source of energy for creation. With her Dutch-Brazilian background, Leonor hovers somewhere between two cultures and two languages—a perspective she considers an enrichment and a strength.
