I am Lily, a textile designer graduate that focuses on detail in print and traditional craft such as etching and embroidery. My main inspiration is the storytelling and detail in East Asian landscape art. My creative process is central to the development of my final designs. I create through meditation, unlocking intuitive mark making and designs that come purely from my imagination.
My collection focuses on detail in print and traditional craft such as etching and embroidery. The title of my collection, ‘Inner Landscapes’ comes from a phrase I heard in a meditation session. I took this practice of ‘observing my inner landscape’ from meditation into creating my collection. My main inspiration when creating my designs is the storytelling and detail in traditional Japanese landscape art. As well as this influence in my designs, my creative process is central to the making. My main medium is etching, a long meditative process that includes drawing onto metal with a needle and painting onto metal using stop out varnish, which has a very unpredictable nature. I scan these etched metal designs to create repeats onto different surfaces using a range of printmaking techniques. My collection displays a journey from these printed etching plates to surfaces such as silk, paper and wood. https://vimeo.com/1082282763/541a735fca
