Milou Boerboom is a footwear designer. Her work revolves around exploring new construction methods within footwear. By merging traditional shoe making and fashion design construction techniques and the unconventional materials it brings, she pushes the boundaries of shoemaking. For her, designing and making go hand in hand, with hands-on experimentation playing a crucial role in her creative process. Through an appreciation for materials and traditional techniques, she strives to redefine contemporary footwear design.
ALIEN is a footwear collection inspired by the structural metal elements found in lingerie. Just as corsets and underwires reshape the body, this project explores how metal frameworks can transform—and even alienate—the natural silhouette of the foot and leg. The collection is built around three distinct shapes: round, square (carré), and pointed. Each shoe embeds metal structures within leather uppers, then overlays them with a fine mesh sleeve. This mesh creates a moiré effect, visually distorting and exaggerating the underlying form. Through the interplay of rigid construction and layered materiality, ALIEN reimagines the contours of the foot. The result is a sculptural reinterpretation of footwear—one that challenges conventional silhouettes and introduces a visual language that feels intimate yet unfamiliar, structured yet surreal.
