In my work I search for new wonder and interest in the world around us. I work mostly with ceramics to make strange, beautiful and frightening sculptures inspired by nature and its patterns, ones that we see almost every day.
My work is an ode to the silent processes, the tragedy, and the exuberance of nature. With my ceramic sculptures, I call for renewed wonder towards all developments, shapes, and colors around us. Processes such as the germination and wilting of a small plant, the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly, and the hatching of a chick from an egg deserve renewed attention. Scales, wings, bones, and fins are recognizable in my work, but the whole remains a mystery. These mysterious shapes offer space to reflect on natural processes of growth and change. Especially in these fast-paced, turbulent times, I find it important to pause and appreciate the subtle, the small things, so that we can find comfort and wonder in the ordinary around us and maintain trust in our ancient, transforming world.
