As a designer, I want to take responsibility: I don't just design beautifully, I design sensibly - with a focus on sustainability, material cycles and resource-conserving processes. For me, design means creating new perspectives, questioning the status quo and initiating real change through design.
Our world will change - we decide HOW.
Fungiture takes a critical look at the processing properties of mycelium-based materials and focuses on the innovative process of thermal pressing. The pressed materials are used to create three stools that demonstrate the advantages of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes. The material compositions resulting from the initial research processes undergo a thermal printing process. During pressing, the material melts due to applied heat and transforms into homogeneous, stable panels. These panels are given diversity through their coloring and structure. Three variants are created: a colorful mushroom panel colored with natural pigments; a laminated panel made from different substrates; and a veneer panel made from mushrooms. Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important aspect in the development and manufacture of all kinds of products. The innovative use of materials in Fungiture stools opens up new aesthetic possibilities, making each piece unique. The stools exemplify the successful implementation of this concept in furniture production and promote the acceptance of alternative materials and production methods in our society.
